Berala Dental is owned and led by Dr Belal Aly, who founded the practice in 2002. Dr Aly holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Otago and continues to see patients full-time. The clinic is family-owned and independent.

Berala Dental has served the Berala and Auburn community since 2002. Over more than two decades the practice has cared for families across Sydney's Inner West, and Dr Belal Aly has led it for the entire period.

Who are the clinicians at Berala Dental?

The clinical team includes Dr Belal Aly (Principal Dentist, BDS University of Otago, in-house implants), Dr Mahnaz (Dentist, administers happy gas sedation), Humzah Aly (Oral Health Therapist, BOH University of Sydney) and Nadim Elhami (Oral Health Therapist, BOH University of Sydney). The wider team also includes dental assistants and reception staff, and English, Arabic and Urdu are spoken.

Can I request a female dentist at Berala Dental?

Yes. Some patients would prefer to be treated by a female clinician, and Dr Mahnaz sees patients who ask for this. Just mention it when you book and we will arrange it where we can. It is a common request and there is no need to feel awkward asking. Dr Mahnaz also administers nitrous oxide (happy gas) sedation for nervous adults and for children.

What languages are spoken at Berala Dental?

English, Arabic and Urdu are spoken across the team. Translation help can also be arranged for other languages on request — please mention your preferred language when booking.

Is Berala Dental a corporate or independent practice?

Berala Dental is a fully independent, family-owned practice. It is not part of any corporate dental group. Dr Belal Aly owns and operates the clinic personally, so decisions about your care are made in the practice.

Dr Belal Aly opened Berala Dental in 2002, a year after finishing dentistry at the University of Otago. Today we're a four-chair practice caring for over 3,000 children, 14,000+ adults, and three generations of families across Sydney's Inner West and South-West.

We never chased growth for its own sake. We grew because patients kept bringing their friends, their kids, and eventually their grandkids. That's still how we grow.

Our dental assistants work chairside through every procedure — passing instruments and managing suction so the clinician can keep both hands on the treatment, which is what four-handed dentistry means. Between patients they run the sterilisation and infection control that resets the room. They are also, very often, the person who sits beside a nervous child or adult and talks them through what is about to happen.

Our reception team is the first voice you hear on the phone, and the ones who find an emergency appointment when someone rings in pain.
